Public Policy and You
Each year legislation is introduced that will have profound effects on Virginia's families. It is up to all of us to make our voices heard on such issues and ask our legislatures to support policies that will benefit families.

If you would like to keep informed of legislation being submitted to the Virginia legislature, check the web site of the Virginia General Assembly at http://legis.state.va.us/vaonline/v.htm. This site will direct you to a wealth of information. Go to "Virginia Online Legislature" from the home page and you will find the following information:

  • how to find your local legislators
  • how to contact your legislators
  • a membership listing
  • a list of publications available
  • election and voting information
  • how to track a bill
  • bill status
  • session highlights
  • and much, much more

Virginia Regulations
For individuals who would also like to track regulatory actions, Virginia has established a web site, "Virginia Regulatory Town Hall", that allows you to track the progress of state regulatory changes from their inception through their enactment as law. This site will also allow you to sign up for a free notification service that will automatically send the user an email notice when an agency plans to promulgate or change a regulation, or when a public meeting is scheduled to address regulatory policy. The Web address for this site is
www.townhall.state.va.us.
